Copywriting Hacks: How to create engaging online content

Tessa Dempster
Marketing Coordinator

Engaging content is the essence of a successful marketing strategy. Without it, a business may find a decrease in the positive engagement with brand, audience participations and overall sales. Understandably, creating and identifying online content ideas that the target demographic will positively respond to can be difficult at times, especially when there is an existing saturation present in the digital sphere. Undergrnd Marketing are specialists in SEO copywriting and content generation, with their team of experienced content writers able to assist you with your digital writing needs. Here are a few tips on how to get the creative juices flowing when it comes down to generating original and engaging digital content ideas.

Find out what’s trending

The end goal of engaging content is to be read and shared by the intended audience as well as reaching their outer circle of digital peers. In order to see positive results, the content will need to be positively received and accepted by those engaging with it, ultimately increasing brand performance and awareness. The first step towards discovering what your audience is currently interested in is to simply - Google it. Look through your demographics’ social media channels to better gauge what is receiving the most shares, highest rankings and is currently trending online.

Headlines hook, line and sinker

Have you ever clicked on an article and, once redirected to the page, realised it not what you thought it would be about? This, while misleading, is a very effective use of clickbait. Grab your audience's attention with an interesting headline or rhetorical question to see effective click through results. Whilst some readers may leave the page or site, some will scroll through the article looking for the relevant information. Now, this is by no means a suggestion to use the headline “cute pictures of puppies” when the content is actually about ways to change an oil filter. This is just false advertising and you want the readers to trust you not turn away. However, you could use the title “Find out what these cuties are sulking about” coupled with a picture of an adorable Labrador to promote an article on puppy vaccinations and why they are important. Used effectively, and not excessively, a well worded headline can be the difference between average and viral digital content.

There’s only one you, so be original

There may be similar versions of your product or service available, but there is only one version of your brand. Show your audience why your business is the best by creating a strong voice and brand identity. A great way of effectively achieving this is through your digital content. Whether it’s tone of voice or a clear singular message, your online content should reflect your brand’s attitudes and promote them to your customers.
